The Holy Father, Pope Francis, invites us to look upon Lent as a favourable season for experiencing conversion. Drawing our attention to the parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Lk 16:19-31), he invites us to contemplate on two gifts: the gift of the Word of God (which the rich man ignored) and the gift of persons around us (which the rich man failed to recognise). Therefore he went down the road of love of money, vanity and pride. Pope Francis invites us to use Lent for renewing our encounter with Christ living in his word, in the sacraments and in our neighbour. The Lord, who overcame the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows the alternate path we must take. May the Holy Spirit lead us on this true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God’s word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need. May you journey through a meaning-filled Lent to a joyous Easter!
