In his homily for Pentecost, even as the Holy Father brought the curtains down on the Easter Season, he launched us into the ordinary season with a clarion call to live as God’s Children:
“ The central purpose of Jesus’s mission, the Holy Father preached, which culminated in the gift of the Holy Spirit, was to renew our relationship with the Father, a relationship severed by sin , to take us from our state of being orphaned children and to restore us as his sons and daughters…. We were made to be God’s Children, it is in our DNA.”
By his death and Resurrection, he who is the Son, has made us sons and daughters of the Father, empowered by the Spirit in our DNA to live like one big family. The Holy Father reminds us of the maternal presence of Mary in the Upper Room at Pentecost, Queen of the family, mother of the church, holding the children under her wings. Cherishing this identity in our minds and hearts let us launch into the ordinary season of this Year of Mercy witnessing to our Christian DNA. May the celebration of Laity Sunday on 26th June 2016 remind us once again of our baptismal anointing!
