Just over a month ago we brought the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to a close, with an overwhelming desire never to close the doors of our hearts to the demands of mercy. Now at Christmas we once again celebrate Jesus as the face of the Father’s mercy by just focusing in the Christmas crib! As Pope Francis reminds us, “imagine Our Lady and St. Joseph on their way to Bethlehem. The journey – the fatigue of it, but also the joy of it – the commotion, and then their anxiety over finding a place to stay, the worry – and so on. In all this, the crèche scene helps us very much: let us seek to enter into the true Nativity – that of Jesus, in order to receive the grace of this feast, which is a grace of love, of humility and of tenderness.”
May the Christmas season which extends into the beginning of the New Year 2017 ensure that the entire year ahead of is made special with startling experiences of mercy!
