The lay faithful in the Archdiocese of Bombay comprises an extremely large number of professionals occupying important positions in their field of work. In order to provide a forum for these lay professionals to experience their identity as Catholic Professionals, the OLCM has revived the concept of the guilds of workers, and adapted it to modern-day “professionals”.
Laity belonging to professions, like Lawyers, Professors, Psychologists, Human Resources, Media, etc are invited to associate among themselves with a view of primarily helping them to experience the catholic dimension of their profession, and also to discover the joy of making a contribution of their professional expertise to ministry in the church. This interaction of the OLCM with catholic professionals has opened up a challenging involvement for its Animators, to enter into fellowship with the professionals, to engage them in a reflection on their professional world, and to help them discover their unique contribution to the church’s mission. Progress is very slow, but extremely promising.
